Andrea
Keen was born in Adelaide, South Australia,
where she experienced the richness
of nature and a culture filled with
self-expression. Her love and respect
for nature has intensified over the
years and is now the primary focus
of her work.
During the mid-80's Andrea ventured
to America, which led to her enrolment
and Fine Art degree from The Corcoran
School of Art, while also apprenticing
for the renowned artist, William Dunlop.
Dunlop's views on environmental issues
helped Andrea cultivate and refine
her message and talents experimenting
with various mediums to create her
expression of the complexities and
energy of life within living objects.
Her images rang from the human form
to the splendor of nature's flora
and fauna. Each image is expanded
to allow the viewer to realize and
visualize the movement, complexity,
power and raw beauty nature has provided.
Andrea feels strongly that the art
itself while being a vehicle to view
life in both its splendor and rage,
is itself a means to express that
which is often repressed within the
individual. To create a channel to
release the soul is the purpose of
art itself. The viewer and the collector
are the beneficiaries of that expression.
With that conviction, upon graduating
from the Corcoran Andrea began working
as the art director with Accotink
Academy teaching disadvantaged children
to functionally experience artistic
expression as a means to improve their
sense of worth and to unlock the inner
self.
She is currently producing several
series of works utilizing a combination
of media to express her visions of
living nature. As an emerging artist
in the world with an inner passion
for excellence, Andrea's progress
will be a continual excitement to
those who truly appreciate both art
and the artist.
